“What’s the big deal, it’s just porn!” Have you ever heard anyone say that before? The vast majority of people on this earth seem to think that porn and masturbation isn’t a big deal. I say this based on the fact that a very large percentage of people use porn on a regular basis, (70 percent of men and 30 percent of women) according to recent surveys, compared to the very small percentage of those who are seeking help in groups and in therapy and by other means. What do you think about it? Does using porn cause issues with you emotionally? Is it affecting different areas of your life? (work, finances, responsibilities, hobbies, spirituality, etc). Is it causing difficulties in your relationships? Is it perhaps causing you sexual problems? If you have answered yes to any of these, then there might be a good reason to quit. For me, porn and compulsive masturbation has caused a lot of damage to my life. Every time I have used this “drug,” afterwards I feel horrible! I feel worthless, unworthy, isolated, disconnected, depressed. Sometimes I have felt like giving up on life or that it is impossible to ever quit. It has caused much difficulty between my wife and I having a safe and vulnerable and trustworthy relationship. It has caused much problems in our intimacy time as well. Porn and masturbation have also distanced me from friends and family and from my God. I try my best to keep these negative consequences that porn has caused me in front of me and in my mind and heart, so that when I’m tempted I will stop and think before going down this terrible road once again. Porn is a prison and I want out! The motivation must be found in order to break free of this addiction. What are your reasons for quitting? I’d love to hear from you. I wish you all a safe and sober weekend and thanks for reading!
